Wow Sunday sure does fly by! I went to the Market Garden this morning to check out the progress from last week; it sure is crazy how fast veg grows when you know what you're doing. I'm learning but i still need a wee bit of help!! Here are a few tips from Ryan for what to do this week; seed your sqaushes, lettuces and cucumbers. Seed your peas and carrots outside. In the greenhouse if you are so fortunate to have one ( next year for me ) fertilize with well rotten manure and compost tea ( Ryan has for .75/ltr bring containers he makes it out back in a huge percolator he built last year) In the pictures above we have a wonderful variety of heirloom tomatoes in the greenhouse. Outside in the garden; beautiful purple sprouting broccoli and in the store red cabbage sprouts ( great lightly sauteed with butter, garlic, salt and pepper ) Enjoy the week! Hopefully lots of Sun and a little rain here and there. Cheers Chef Dwane

I went to visit my Garden Guru Ryan on Sunday; theirs always something new and exciting going on ! He has taken over the Oceanic Market at 810 Catherine Street in Vic West. The Oceanic was your typical old school corner store , but not for long....
Ryan has closed his gate at the backside of the property and put a door at the back of the store ; so now you can access his beautiful produce, plants and vegetable starts at the front of the store and when you go inside you'll witness the transformation of the once old tired space into a vibrant community food hub. Their will be in addition to his ever changing garden space; their will soon be a commercial kitchen where their will be cooking classes and lessons, as well as products being made to sell in the store. Go in and say hi to Ryan and buy some of his gorgeous produce and ask whats best to start planting right now! Until next time... Chef Dwane The "In the Garden" blog series will be full of tips, advice from the experts and timely reminders to keep your garden looking and producing at it's best: from choosing the right fertilizer, watering schedule, site selection and more. Keep an eye on Ryan's amazing garden at "The Market Garden" in Vic West, as it transforms over the spring and summer.
